The First Congregational Church Diaconate
The mission of your Diaconate is to keep watch over ourselves and all the flock over which the Holy Spirit has made us overseers; to be shepherds of God's flock - not because we must, but because we are willing as God calls us to be: eager to serve, not lording it over those entrusted to us but being examples to the flock. When the Chief Shepherd appears you will receive a crown of glory that will never fade away (Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:1-4). We met monthly throughout the year in order to assist with the worship services as needed, coordinate serving of the sacraments, and lead in spiritual matters of the First Congregational Church.
Specifically your board of deacons oversees the following areas:
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues, put on love which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be THANKFUL. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it ALL in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the Father through Him. Colossians 3:12-17
